Please Allow Me To Introduce Myself ...

I’m looking for a freelance Creative Director position that utilizes my 16+ years of interactive experience, while leveraging my strategic abilities as an award-winning talent.

Before we talk about my work, there’s a few things you should know about me:
•    My name is pronounced with an “sh” as in “Sharla.”
•    I like to go the distance—whether it be on foot, on bike, or in the pool.
•    Susan Sontag once described me as “someone interested in everything.” It’s quite fitting.**

Once upon a time, I moved to San Francisco to work on these cool things called CD-ROMs. Instead, in July 1995, I landed at America Online (AOL), and the next month, Netscape went public. That autumn, I went into a 30-person meeting where Ted Leonsis laid out AOLs long-term mission: content offerings as unique as the flavors of Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and of the creative caliber of HBO. I often think about that meeting because although AOL became known as an access provider, they’ve always steered back to content. As have I. Between the three C’s (Commerce, Community, and Content), advertising—and what I do best—falls into the last category.

My job is at the precarious merging point of translating a client's needs into both a visual and verbal story that excites and compels the online user. With a visionary perspective, I help create a drumbeat of emotional engagement so that the teams I lead develop work people want. They want to play with it. They want to connect to it. They want to be a part of it. And THAT is Content.

Happily, once again, Content is King.

NOTE:
This photograph resides on my fridge, along with a few hundred other photobooth pix of pals, friends of friends, and myself. I’ve been creating this collection since 1999.

** Susan Sontag was not actually speaking of Charla Myers, the award-winning interactive creative talent, but rather offering a more general definition on what it means to be a writer. Although, it would’ve been something she could've said about Charla Myers, if they had met.
